Wednesday Cooking Class : Making Pizza

In this week’s cooking class, we are making pizza. This was a request from Yael who absolutely adores pizza. We permit ourselves one day a week of eating junk food and usually it is take away pizza. This time I thought let’s make a healthier option and make our own. I’ve changed the recipe a little and substituted white flour to whole wheat flour (just for the sake of a healthier option).

The recipe itself is simple enough :

200g strong white bread flour (we used whole wheat instead) plus extra for dusting and shaping ½ tsp salt 1/3 tsp dried yeast ¼ tsp caster sugar 125ml warm water 2 tsp olive oil toppings and a large baking sheet

I checked the fridge for what we can use to top the pizza with. Since it was the end of the week and lazy mom hadn’t gone and done the grocery yet, we only had mushrooms and a little feta cheese. That had to do. So we went on laboring, following the recipe.

The girls of course wanted to do everything themselves. They sifted the flour and salt into a mixing bowl. Added sugar and the yeast.

They then added warm water and olive oil. Make sure the water is not too hot as it can kill the yeast.

Mixed everything well.

Aaaaand each of them kneaded the dough!

After we kneaded the dough, we’ve left it to rise for one hour in a warm place covered with tea towel. Meanwhile, we proceeded in cleaning the mess.

After one hour, we checked the dough and it didn’t rise much. I think this happened because I have substituted the white flour with whole wheat flour, the dough did not rise much. We still wanted to save the dough so we decided to roll it so very thin and make a thin crust pizza. Saved!

Now that’s done, we moved on to putting on the topping. Luckily we did have a can of tomato paste left (sorry, too lazy to make my own, using canned ones instead). So, tomato paste went first.

Mushrooms went after.

Feta Cheese went on the last.

In the oven for 20 minutes and then…..voila!

Still a success, thin crust pizza, not bad at all!

The girls certainly enjoyed every bite and finished it in 5 minutes!
